They were beautiful twisted, weathered sculptures
embedded with stones and
beach glass.
I‘m really an artist of opportunity. I work with what
ever I
have at hand. Sometimes something will light a fire in me
and take me on a long journey.
That’s pretty much how it is with my mosaics.
They remind me of that driftwood we found.
Like lost
bits and pieces of once
beautiful things that collect along the edges.
Still
beautiful when you take the time to look at them.
I can incorporate anything in a mosaic that
happens to catch my eye…
from a bit of broken pottery, to the colors of a starry night.
It is the ultimate medium for me.
(At least for the moment!)
I love to use badly damaged or broken old plates in my work. I am careful not to break anything that is valuable…
though I have purchased new plates to liberate.
I also use ceramic and porcelain tile, broken decorative items, lots of stained glass, and any interesting bits that end up in my jars!
Thankfully,
I have a wonderfully understanding family
who indulge my scavenger hunts, endless
jars, and stacks of tile and plates.
